Coco Peat is also known as coco coircoco fiber or coir peat is derived from coconut. Coco Peat is naturally sterile and inert, free from most fungal spores. It’s a by-product from another industry and is produced sustainably without the environmental damage caused by peat mining.
Coco Peat is a fond favourite grow medium amongst aquaponics / hydroponics enthusiasts alike. It can be used in a home hobby environment as well as commercial applications.
It has excellent moisture retention and drainage properties. When re-hydrated, Coco Peat expands to about 7-8 times it’s volume in grow medium.
Coco peat is a substitute for peat, and typically has a slightly acidic pH, which most plant varieties can tolerate.
Additionally, Coco Peat can be be mixed with sand, compost and fertilizer to make good quality potting soil.
Fine Coco Peat is also used as a preferred grow medium when taking cuttings, as it is an inert medium, ideal for the cloning/cutting/propagation process.
