We love to see gardens evolve here at Garden Photo of the Dayand Dot Lenahan in Broomall, Pennsylvnia is treating us to a new garden as it comes into its own. We were first introduced to Dot’s garden last summer when it was only three years old (Dot’s Three-Year-Old Garden). This spring we got another fantastic update as it entered its fourth growing season (Roses and Clematis Save Spring in Dot’s Pennsylvania Garden), and today she is back with some fabulous summer scenes. Enjoy the photos below, and check out her first submission to see how much it has changed and matured over the past year!
Hello from Broomall, PA. The garden has been blooming thanks to rain and deadheading (not to mention weeding!). This is the first year I have had so many hummingbirds; usually they are more territorial. My morning coffee has been made even more enjoyable as they buzz around me as I smell the reblooming roses and honeysuckle. I am starting perennial and biennial seeds and hope to be able to transplant into the garden in late fall. An update will follow in the future. Happy gardening. Dot Lenahan
It looks like Dot’s milky bellflower (Campanula lactifflitoraZones 5–7) is still young, but it is already giving her some beautiful blooms.
Dot has a gorgeous array of different flower shapes and sizes in her garden. You will find smaller, simpler blooms like the milky bellflower above to huge blooms like this bright white dahlia.
Yet another vibrant bloom, a bright purple clematis is always sublime as it pops out against green foliage.
A Parfuma Earth Angel rose (Rosa ‘KORgeowim’, Zones 5–9) creates what Dot called a “wall of roses”—one of the best kind of walls you can have in your garden.
To enjoy all of her sensational blooms, Dot has some beautiful benches situated in the garden. However, these benches aren’t simply places to sit, they are additional sources of color and style.
You can seen that again with this other bench surrounded by arches and trellises. In this photo you also see some more of Dot’s fun garden art—like the colorful mushroom wind chime—which showcase her personality and style.
Dot’s lush garden is also a dreamy space at night. I love the twinkly lights that help illuminate the space.
