Spring is in full swing, and it’s starting to feel like summer is right around the corner, so container gardening is really starting to pick up steam. When we talk about containers, one person that always comes to mind is Howard Nemeroff, a.k.a. @plant_parenting. Howard is the owner of an indoor plant and container garden design company in Chicago, Illinois, and generously shares his gorgeous designs, creative process, and maintenance tips on his popular Instagram page. We have been lucky to feature some of his fabulous designs on Garden Photo of the Day over the years (check out some of his previous submissions: New Container Creations from Howard, Howard’s Spring Container Displays, Celebrating Summer and Welcoming Fall with Howard’s Containers, Howard’s Pumpkin Displays in Chicago, New Creations From a Window Box Expertand more), and today he is back to share some of the unique concoctions he has cooked up this spring.
I thought I would try my hand at an all-native container. Composition includes ninebark (Physocarpus opulifoliusZones 2–8), coreopsisand maidenhair fern (Adiantum footedZones 3–8).
Thriller, filler, and spiller of a different sort
Martha or Regal geraniums (Pelargonium × domesticZones 9–11 or as an annual) and alyssum (Lobularia maritimaannual), easily a month in.
