Happy Monday, GPODers!

Spring signals the start of all kinds of gardening activities. For many of us, that means the awakening of our gardens and the beginning of spring chores. Some might be excited to get back to volunteering with a garden club or at a local public garden, and others can finally return to the community garden that brings them peace and connectedness. One such garden that provides nature and serenity where people and wildlife need it most is the Los Amigos Community Garden (@losamigoscommunitygarden) in East Harlem, New York. Established in 1982, it is a 1,946-square-foot haven amid the hustle and bustle of New York City. It’s a small but mighty space, whether you want to learn about and admire plants or simply enjoy the peace and tranquility that the garden provides. The garden is also a beautiful setting for community events, including weekend barbecues in the summer. The photos below were shared by Sharon Byington and show just a small sample of the vibrancy cultivated at Los Amigos Community Garden.

Our little garden is in the heart of East Harlem. We have created a peaceful green space where people can come and study, meditate, listen to music, or just listen to nature!

The garden is still in the process of waking up for the season, but happy hellebores are providing some cheerful blooms, and the hydrangeas are starting to leaf out.

Thank you so much for sharing this incredibly special place with us, Sharon! All of our green spaces are vitally important, but in areas where greenery is harder to come by, a space like Los Amigos Community Garden can make an even bigger impact.

What green spaces do you share with others? Do you open up your own garden to local tours, or volunteer for your town’s gardening club, or work in a community garden like Los Amigos?
